Autism Assessments
What we offer
Changing Minds Psychology Services offers multi-disciplinary assessments for the assessment of autism in children, young people and adults. Our assessments adhere to National Institute of Clinical Excellence guidance and are undertaken by a range of clinicians (psychologists, speech therapists and occupational therapists) that have significant experience in assessing and supporting children and adults with social communication difficulties.

How we work
Each assessment is child/person-centred and planned in accordance with presenting needs. Our clinicians are ADOS-2, ADI-R and/or DISCO trained and we use a combination of structured questionnaires and observation schedules to determine a child, young person or adult’s needs. We will also liaise with other professionals such as schools and paediatricians to ensure that we gain a clear and accurate understanding of each child/young person or adult’s needs.
Assessment planning clinics
Typically, we will meet with each new client within one of our “assessment planning clinics”. Each client’s appointment in this clinic will typically last between one and one and a half hours and will focus on gaining an accurate understanding of presenting needs. An assessment plan will then be identified and agreed upon with each adult or parent/carer. This plan will describe the additional information that will need to be gathered and the associated costs of doing this. At this point should the client wish to proceed with the assessment the work will be diarised.
Post assessment meeting
Following completion of all assessments, the information will be reviewed by a multi-disciplinary panel and the client or parents/carers will be invited to attend a post-assessment meeting. At this meeting, all assessment information will be presented and discussed and a decision (regarding whether or not a diagnosis has been confirmed) will be given. Parents will then be provided with post-diagnostic support and a detailed assessment report will be written.
Post diagnostic services are also available (at an additional cost) should clients wish to seek additional advice and guidance regarding any aspect of autism.
